THE UST Lady Booters dropped another narrow defeat to the UP Fighting Maroons, 0-1, in the UAAP Season 89 women’s football tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the UP Football Field.

UST absorbed its third straight loss, sliding to fifth in the standings with a 1-0-4 win-draw-loss record, while UP moved up to fourth with a 2-0-3 record to end the first round.

Lady Booters Pia Jumamoy and Rojana Nemenzo tested UP goalkeeper Ainnah De Guzman with long-distance attempts midway through the first half, but De Guzman stood firm to keep both shots out.

UP finally broke through in the 41st minute off a counterattack, with captain Erissa Rivas firing a shot past the keeper to put the Fighting Maroons ahead heading into halftime.

The España-based squad could not find an equalizer in the second half despite controlling possession and repeatedly challenging UP’s defense, finishing with 14 attempts.

The league is yet to announce the second-round schedule. F
