UAAP hands season-long ban to NU deputy after incident with UST coach
THE UAAP has suspended NU Lady Bulldogs assistant coach Paul Du for the rest of Season 89 on Monday, Oct. 12, after a physical altercation with UST Growling Tigresses assistant coach Arsenio Dysangco.
Du reportedly threw an elbow to Dysangco during the post-game handshake between NU and UST on Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. The encounter caused the UST deputy coach to fall and require medical assistance.
The sanction prohibits Du from participating in all basketball-related activities in both 5-on-5 and 3×3 competitions of all divisions until the season closes and is effective immediately.
The Commissioner’s Office added that additional sanctions may be also imposed by the UAAP Board of Managing Directors. However, it said that NU retains their right to appeal and challenge the suspension.
The Growling Tigresses disrupted the Lady Bulldogs’ win streak with a 90-66 landslide to sustain their unbeaten record after three games.
The España-based squad will next face the FEU Lady Tamaraws on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at the same venue. F -Nathalie Rose Salar
