THE UST Lady Booters suffered a second draw in their match against the Ateneo Blue Eagles, 1-1, in the UAAP Season 89 women’s football tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at the UP Diliman Football Field.
With the result, UST ended the match with a 1-2-5 standing, while Ateneo suffered their first draw of the season with 3-1-4 standing.
Joyce Gemberva quickly initiated the first match point in the 11th-minute as she sinked-in a rebound goal for UST, replenishing the missed goal attempt by Princess Amilhamja, 1-0.
The Lady Booters attempted their second goal in the 32nd minute through a kick by Mecah Elah Ursal, but Ateneo goalkeeper Brielle Baca caught the ball immediately to prevent an increased deficit.
After several attempts, Ateneo answered back offensively as Rae Tolentino sniped a strike to level the match, 1-1, after a missed penalty kick by team captain Kassandra Zalamea within the 43rd-minute mark.
Trying to steal a lead, both teams went on a physical defensive route in the second half, with Rodina Fernandez missing on three goal attempts after a Blue Eagle defensive stop in the 70th minute.
Thomasian goalkeeper Lizlie Garcia then managed to prevent two straight attempts of Ateneo to score in the 90-minute mark.
After a four-minute match extension, the tug-of-war between both schools ended in a physical tackle of Tolentino to defender Rica Gerona.
The Lady Booters aim to snag a crucial victory against the winless NU Lady Bulldogs on Saturday, Oct. 24, at the same venue. F
