UNITAS, THE oldest multidisciplinary journal in the country published by the University, will host an international lecture series for its centennial anniversary.
The next installment of the Authors International Lecture Series to be held on Feb. 22 will feature University of California professor John Blanco, who will tackle trans-Pacific culture between Mexico and the Philippines through the figure of the Moor in the Philippine colonial romance and theater.
The event aims to engage the audience in a classroom lecture-style forum of intellectual discovery while discussing the authors’ published works.
Four more authors will be speaking during the event from February to April, including David O’Connor, formerly of the United Nations, with his lecture on the sustainable development goals and the importance of cultural change and Juan Miguel Quizon of the Chinese University of Hong Kong who will present his paper “Dictatorship’s Temporal Edifice: Ang Bagong Lipunan’s Manila International Airport.”
Jesus Cyril Conde from Ateneo de Naga University will also discuss his article “Metonymies of Ethnobotany and the Fellowship Discourse of Sagrada Familia Healers in Irosin, Sorsogon, Philippines” while Vincenz Serrano from Ateneo de Manila University will present his paper “Total Midnight All Over the Land Escaping Minute by Minute into the Small Hours: Historiography and Baroque Poetics in Nick Joaquin’s A Question of Heroes.”
Also part of the year-long celebration is the launching of the May 2022 regular issue in June and the UNITAS Special Centennial issue in July. The journal will also host the Asian Journals Network colloquium in August and will cap off the celebration in December with the launching of the November 2022 issue. F – Kristine Erika Agustin
