VETERAN ACTOR and Journalism alumnus Bernardo Bernardo passed away at the age of 73 on Thursday.

“Our tito Bernardo Bernardo passed away this morning. [T]hank you for all your prayers,” Susan Vecina Santos said in a Facebook post.

Santos later announced through DZMM that Bernardo’s wake will be held at the St. Peter’s Chapel in Quezon City.

In a Facebook post on Jan. 5, Bernardo said doctors at the UST Hospital found a tumor growing on his pancreas that caused it to swell. He asked for prayers from his friends and supporters.

“I know that in order to continue to fight this battle, I need courage. I need strength; I need clarity of mind,” he said.

In the same post, Bernardo revealed that he had a history of clinical depression and anxiety attacks.

Bernardo is known for his role as Steve Carpio in the ABS-CBN sitcom “Home Along the Riles” and for appearing in several foreign films co-produced in the Philippines.

He finished his bachelor’s degree in journalism in 1966. He was a former Varsitarian editor in chief and later earned graduate degrees from the University of California Santa Barbara and the University of Phoenix.

In 2016, Bernardo was selected by the UST Center for Creative Writing and Literary Studies to teach a playwriting course that is part of the creative writing program at the UST graduate school. F
