DEFENDING CHAMPION UST Chorus of Arts and Letters (AB Chorale) lost their chance at a three-peat after losing to the Accountancy Chamber Singers in Himig Tomasino 2019.
AB Chorale settled for first runner-up, garnering 91.67%, while the Accountancy Chamber Singers (College of Accountancy) garnered 93.67%, earning the championship. Meanwhile, the Pharmacy Glee Club (Faculty of Pharmacy) got a score of 85.30%, landing in third place.
“Thank you sa lahat ng nag–support sa amin and kahit we got first runner-up, we’re still very proud na we know na we did our best, and for us it was deserving of a win, kahit paano pang award ‘yun and we know na we did all that we can,” AB Chorale president Pia Barroso said.
“Despite us not getting the championship title, we are still really grateful, especially to all of our supporters from AB, our families, our friends. We offer all of this to them and to God,” she added.
The chorale held the championship title in 2017 and 2018.
The group also won Best Performance Attire and the People’s Choice Award, while the Accountancy Chamber Singers were awarded Best Conductor and Best Interpretation.
A total of five groups representing different colleges in the University participated, including the Arkipella Mixed Ensemble (College of Architecture) and the One Voice Engineering Chorale (Faculty of Engineering).
The five competitors sang their renditions of the classic Filipino song “Paru-parong Bukid” along with their chosen pieces.
Himig Tomasino 2019 was held at the Medicine Auditorium on Sunday and was judged by pianist Anthony Go Villanueva, German composer Ralph Hoffmann, and conductor Arwin Tan. F
