THE Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) has released eight remastered classics as part of the celebration of the first Philippine Film Industry month.
The Philippine Film Archive (PFA), a division under the FDCP, has assembled a line-up of masterpieces by national artists and noteworthy Filipino filmmakers that were shown in the 1970s to 1990s.
These films have “greatly influenced the Philippine cinema to what it is today,” the PFA said in its official Facebook page.
The films that will be shown for free are Lino Brocka’s “Insiang” and “White Slavery;” Ishmael Bernal’s “Manila by Night” and “Pagdating sa Dulo;” Kidlat Tahimik’s “Sinong Lumikha ng Yoyo, Sino Lumikha ng Moon Buggy” and “Turumba;” Marilou Diaz-Abaya’s “Brutal;” and Nick De Ocampo’s “Sex Workers and the Samurai.”
The eight titles may be viewed on the FDCP channel.
Last February, President Rodrigo Duterte signed Proclamation 1085 declaring September as Philippine Film Industry Month, citing the need to “showcase and celebrate the achievements and progress of the discipline of film and filmmaking.” F – D.D. Solano
