THIS YEAR’S Agape celebration will showcase a Christmas-themed drone light show for the first time since the pre-pandemic period, according to the director of the UST Facilities Management Office.
More than 200 drones would take to the skies during the much-anticipated Thomasian Christmas feast today, Dec. 13, Fr. Dexter Austria, O.P. said.
“[T]here will be a drone show which start[s] around 7 p.m. or an hour after the opening of the Agape [in] the open field,” Austria told The Flame.
The Agape is an annual communal feast wherein members of the Thomasian community, including alumni and staff, gather on campus to share food prepared by the University.
The last time UST featured a drone display was during a campus lighting ceremony in 2019, which was before the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted face-to-face Paskuhan celebrations for two years.
According to the University’s official pyromusical provider Dragon Fireworks Inc., the drone show is scheduled to last for 12 to 15 minutes.
Classes will be suspended from 4 p.m. onwards to give way to the Agape. A Paskuhan mass will also be held at 5 p.m. at the Plaza Mayor ahead of the feast.
A pre-event parol-making contest will also take place at 2:30 p.m., after which the decorations will be displayed at the UST Chapel.
Only Thomasians and alumni are allowed to attend this year’s Agape and the upcoming grand Paskuhan concert on Friday, Dec. 20. F
