Artlets alumna appointed as PCO undersecretary

PRESIDENT FERDINAND Marcos, Jr. has appointed UST Political Science alumna Clarissa Castro as undersecretary of the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), the government’s lead communication agency.

Castro, who will also serve as Palace press officer, took her oath before Marcos on Monday, Feb. 24.

As press officer, Castro will be holding press briefings and will articulate the Marcos administration’s positions on key issues.

Castro also obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree from UST. She worked as a trial lawyer at her own law firm and an analyst at DZXL’s Usapang Batas.”

Castro was also a commentator of “Asintado” at Abante Teletabloid from 2021 to 2022, “Usapang de Campanilla” from 2007 to 2020 and “Relos Reports with Atty. Kiko” from 2000 to 2001 both at the defunct radio station DZMM. 

Since 2020, Castro has hosted a YouTube channel called “Batas with Atty. Claire Castro,” which has nearly 400,000 subscribers.

Castro worked as a columnist at tabloid publication Abante from 2018 to 2019. She was also a television host for ABS-CBN talk show “3-in-1” alongside journalist Karen Davila and comedian K Brosas in 2015 and for UNTV News and Rescue’s “Law Profile” with Caloocan City prosecutor Boogie Rodrigo in 2010.

She will work alongside newly-appointed PCO secretary Jay Ruiz, who replaced veteran broadcaster Cesar Chavez.

The PCO is responsible for disseminating the administration’s messages and policies to the public. F
