Thomasian mental health group ramps up support through year-end debriefing talks

STRESSED OUT by your personal and school issues? Someone is ready to listen.

Thomasians with year-end academic worries will have listening ears as a student-led mental health group is offering free online counseling sessions until June 6.

The Thomasian Mental Health Responders (TMHR) has relaunched its debriefing sessions to provide students a venue to talk about their concerns, uncertainties and plans.

Held daily since May 29 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., the consultation is also open to non-Thomasians and University personnel.

“It’s officially the end of academic year 2024-2025. Thomasians, let us help you relieve your academic stress. We’re opening our debriefing sessions once again,” TMHR, a community service advocacy program led by the UST Department of Psychology, said in a Facebook post.

The initiative was relaunched weeks after the passing of UST Physical Therapy senior Junver Toledo, who took his own life after failing twice in the same subject.

The incident triggered calls to ease academic pressures, ensure the availability of mental health aid and improve the handling of students’ academic struggles and concerns.

The UST Faculty Union has warned against blaming faculty members for the incident and has called for collaborative efforts to improve student welfare.

The UST Central Student Council has urged the administration to re-evaluate academic policies, citing what it called the “burdens” and “pressures” faced by students.

Non-graduating students are expected to have completed their final requirements for this academic year this week as the release of final grades for the second term approaches. F
