UST names 37 new officials in Manila, Laguna, GenSan branches

THIRTY-SEVEN administrators and academic unit heads have been designated in three UST campuses, the Office of the Secretary General (OSG) has announced.  

Of the newly appointed officials, 30 were tasked to lead various offices in UST Manila, one was assigned to the Santa Rosa branch in Laguna while six were designated to the recently opened General Santos campus.

“The University is pleased to announce, for everyone’s information and guidance, the following new officials of UST Manila, UST Manila Annex (City of Santa Rosa), and UST General Santos,” the OSG said in a memorandum dated Aug. 11.

In UST Manila’s Faculty of Arts and Letters, four departments were assigned new chairs, most of whom are doctorate holders, with one slated to attain the highest academic degree.

Prof. Jeremaiah Opiniano now heads the Journalism department. He is the program’s first faculty member to achieve the highest ranking of professor since its inception in 1929.

Instructors Jade Bretaña and Jonathan Libut were named chairs of the Sociology and Asian Studies departments, respectively, while Asst. Prof. Edelberto Bunquin was named Legal Management department chair.

The new department chairs in AB were announced in the faculty’s general assembly.

The University has also designated 21 new officials in the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery in Manila.

The faculty’s new department chairs are the following:

  • Prof. Encarnita Ampil – Neuroscience and Behavioral Medicine

  • Prof. Ma. Teresa Tricia Bautista – Preventive Medicine

  • Prof. Ma. Rosario Cabansag – Physiology

  • Assoc. Prof. Jocelyn Myra Caja – Pathology

  • Assoc. Prof. Ma. Catrini Cruz – Radiology

  • Prof. Ida Marie Lim – Clinical Epidemiology

  • Prof. Agnes Cecille Llamas – Pharmacology

  • Assoc. Prof. Maria Teresa Luna – Obstetrics and Gynecology

  • Assoc. Prof. Catherine Macaraig – Ophthalmology

  • Prof. Bien Matawaran – Biochemistry

  • Asst. Prof. Karl Morales – Surgery

  • Assoc. Prof. Roland Panaligan – Medical Ethics

  • Assoc. Prof. Marcellus Ramirez – Medicine

  • Assoc. Prof. Joel Romualdez – Otorhinolaryngology

  • Assoc. Prof. Anita Sangalang – Medical Education

  • Assoc. Prof. Ma. Lourdes Santos – Anatomy

  • Asst. Prof. Maria Lourdes Corazon Tapang – Rehabilitation Medicine

  • Assoc. Prof. Maria Antonia Aurora Valencia – Pediatrics

Under the same faculty, Asst. Prof. Solita de Jesus and Asst. Prof. Patricia Syson were named officer-in-charge of the Anesthesiology department and Legal Medicine Unit, respectively. Meanwhile, Asst. Prof. Rommel Romano was designated chief program officer of the Medical Informatics Center.

Beverly Bautista was named acting director of UST Manila’s Center for Conservation of Cultural Property and Environment in the Tropics.

In the Office of Planning and Quality Management, Assoc. Prof. Ma. Fylene Gardiner was appointed institutional quality management officer, while Assoc. Prof. Maureen Gelle-Jimenez was designated program quality management officer.

Fr. Art Vinent Pangan, O.P. is the new acting regent of The College of Education, while Walner Saturno is now the school secretary of the UST Junior High School.

The lone new appointee to UST Santa Rosa is Fr. Cecilio Vladimir Magboo, O.P., who was appointed chaplain of the Laguna branch.

Meanwhile, UST General Santos welcomed six administrative officials to kick off its second academic year since its establishment.

Instructor Silver Macray Hiponia now heads the Mindanao-based campus’s Office for Student Affairs, while Jay Galleno is now the Office for Student Admissions and Records director.

Asst. Prof. Victor Reyes was appointed director of the Communications Bureau while Joy Abraham was designated head of the human resource department.

Asst. Prof. Eduardo Cabalang Jr. was named officer-in-charge for Research, while Mershen Gania was designated assistant administrator of the Laboratory Equipment and Supplies office. F
