
THE VARSITARIAN, the University’s official student publication, has received eight awards for its photos, faith coverage, advertisement campaign, audio visual feature and editorial cartoon at the US College Media Association (CMA) Pinnacle Awards.
The publication’s “Papal Coverage: Francis’s Death and Leo XIV’s Election,” won first place in the Coverage of Faith category.
The audio visual sports feature, “‘Superstar’ – UAAP Season 87 Second Semester Primer,” won first place in the category. It was produced by The Varsitarian editor in chief Chalssea Kate Echegoyen.
“Surviving Without Sara, the ‘Designated Survivor’” by former layout editor Jan Esguerra won second place in the opinion pinnacles category, while the general photo, “Welcome Rites at UST GenSan,” by former photo editor Jeremy Edera, placed third in the news pinnacles category.
Honorable mentions under the promotion and advertising category were given to the ad campaign animations “26th Inkblots Promotional Campaign” by former The Varsitarian artist Louelle Marie Bumalay and Aisha Sofia M. Fortes, and the “Pautakan 2025 Teaser” by The Varsitarian artist Jimmarson Chester Pua.
The publication’s “The People’s Pope: Pope Francis, 1936-2025” was also given honorable mention under the special section category.
It’s sports photo, “Golden Tigresses Outlast DLSU in 5 Sets,” by photo editor James Magboo, was also given honorable mention.
Given annually by the CMA, the Pinnacle Awards recognizes journalistic works of student reporters in divisions, namely, Creative Pinnacles, Features Pinnacles, General Pinnacles, News Pinnacles, Opinion Pinnacles, Promotion or Advertising Pinnacles, and Sports Pinnacles. F
