THE FACULTY of Arts and Letters (AB) Men’s Basketball Team secured a spot in the quarterfinals of this year’s Thomasian Goodwill Games after disposing the College of Tourism and Hospitality Management (CTHM) in a head-to-head battle, 68-66, Friday at P.Noval Court.
Leading AB to its fourth straight win were Janrey Garrido with 18 points, and Nicko Bahia with 15 points.
Both squads started hot but AB prevailed in the first half of the game, 37-34.
A three-pointer by Marc Iguban of CTHM enabled his team to surge past AB in the third quarter, 48-46. CTHM continued to own the match as fouls troubled the Dapitan-based squad’s plays, leaving the quarter at 54-51.
However, a two-point shot from Paul Lopez in the last few seconds of the fourth quarter brought AB back in the track, 67-66, before Garrido blew the final free throw, capping the match in favor of the men in blue.
“Masaya kami. […] Siyempre we worked hard for this; ang aga namin nag-start mag-training. First [semester] pa lang nagti-training na kami,” Bahia told the Flame.
Despite AB’s continuous victory, Bahia added that the team would still strive to improve its defense for its upcoming games. F
