UST Growling Tigers now on a 3-game skid after bowing to DLSU Green Archers

THE UST Growling Tigers suffered another tough loss after being demolished by the DLSU Green Archers, 91-71, in the UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball tournament.

DLSU led by as much as 30 points in the game, which was held on Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

It was the Tigers’ third straight loss under coach Pido Jarencio, resulting in a 0-3 record.

Nic Cabañero was the only player in double-digits for UST, scoring a game-high 25 points.

DLSU took control of the game early, as green archer Kevin Quiambao completed a three-point play to seize an 11-point advantage in the first quarter, 22-11.

In the second frame, DLSU pulled away after Joaquin Manuel had a personal five-point run to take a 17-point lead, 36-19. However, Cabañero had a basket to top off an eight-point run to cut the lead to 11 points before the second half, 47-36.

DLSU overwhelmed UST’s defense with a barrage of triples in the third quarter, securing a 25-point lead, 73-48.

Green Archers Quiambao and Joshua David scored 14 points each, with five threes combined. Manuel, who provided a spark off the bench, contributed 11 markers with three triples.

Forwards Migs Pangilinan and Christian Manaytay chipped in eight, and seven points respectively for UST.

The still winless UST Growling Tigers will seek to end their slump against the defending champions NU Bulldogs on Oct. 11 at the Mall of Asia Arena. F
