THE UST Growling Tigers extended their losing streak to eight after blowing a 19-point lead to the Adamson University (AdU) Soaring Falcons, 56-55, in the second round of UAAP Season 85 men’s basketball tournament. With his team down by two with 8.4 seconds left on the clock, Falcons’ big man Cedrick Manzano buried a clutch and-1 off an inbound pass from Joaquin Jaymalin to complete the comeback over the Tigers on Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Araneta Coliseum.  Tigers’ Jamba Garing missed the potential game-winner after a scrambling AdU stop, while Nic Cabañero, who had 22 points with six rebounds, was seen to be irate at the end of the regulation after being scoreless in the final quarter. by SHAYNE LEE MACARAEG The UST Growling Tigers are now on a four-game losing streak as they are outgunned by the UE Red Warriors, 78-68, in the UAAP Season 85 men’s basketball eliminations at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday, Oct. 16. UE defeated UST for the first time since UAAP season 80 dating back to October 7, 2017. Things got physical at the 2:01 minute mark of the third quarter, causing Tigers’ big man Adama Faye to be thrown out of the game due to a disqualifying foul on Red Warriors’ Harvey Pagsanjan. It was anyone’s game in the first half that featured fast-paced action from both teams, as UST’s Nic Cabanero finished through contact with 38.3 left to take the first-half lead, 29-28. But UE managed to convert five triples in the third quarter, led by its team ca...

UST trailed behind Adamson in the first minutes of the game, with Soaring Falcons' Joshua Yerro, Jerom Lastimosa, and Vince Magbuhos leading the host team...

The King Tiger’s Last Chance

HE WILL not be another King Tiger clutching his soaked jersey at the end of the season, wondering why the championship would only let them get close—but never close enough. Not on his last year. Louie Philippe Vigil had his fair share of court heartbreaks when the Growling Tigers succumbed to the Far Eastern University Tamaraws last year, and the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles last 2012. Both championship games ended with a bridesmaid finish for UST, worsened by several allegations that marred the team as they tried to bounce back. “Naramdaman ko na para akong namatay,” Vigil says with a sullen look. “Ang sakit na ayoko na mag-basketball or kung maglalaro ako, dapat laging panalo. Ayoko na ma-feel ang gano’ng pakiramdam.” As the reigning King Tiger this season,...

"Ang goal namin [is] to win as many games as possible. Syempre kapag marami kaming mapapanalunan, makaka-final four kami. Tapos syempre, gusto naming manalo," Vigil, who is an Asian Studies senior, told the Flame. The Tigers' shooting guard added, "Marami na ring nagsasabing galing kami sa finals pero mahina na ngayon. Sinasabi ko ...
