WHAT WAS meant to be a three-peat ended in a heartbreak for UST Prime, as it settled for first runner-up in the UAAP Season 87 street dance competition on Tuesday, May 20, at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Despite delivering a chilling horror-themed routine that earned 88.57 points, UST was dethroned by the UP Street Dance Club.
The Diliman crew brought the house down with a magic-inspired performance that scored 89.33 points, enough to halt UST’s bid to match UP’s own legendary three-peat run from 2013 to 2016.
The La Salle Dance Company rounded out the collegiate podium with 86.17 points for their groovy, high-energy number.
Prime entered the competition with heightened expectations despite fielding a rookie-heavy roster, having lost 20 dancers from last year’s championship squad.
In the juniors’ division, UST Galvanize also failed to defend its crown, missing out on the podium for the first time in five years.
The España squad’s routine that featured Lola Amour’s hit single “Raining in Manila,” garnered a score of 75.83.
The NU Dance Company emerged victorious for their first-ever title, earning 82.83 points. Indayog ng Atenistiang Kabataan of Ateneo placed second with 80.97, while Adamson University Dance Company Street – SHS claimed third with 78.57 points.
UST took home the general championship in both the senior and junior divisions this season. F
