UST GROWLING Tigers’ head coach Pido Jarencio has been appointed as the new governor of Terrafirma Dyip of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

Jarencio will work alongside UST team manager Waiyip Chong following Titan Ultra’s acquisition of the NorthPort franchise.

The 61-year-old mentor succeeded Bobby Rosales, who stepped down after the Terrafirma’s aborted sale attempts.Jarencio becomes the second former PBA player to assume the post of team governor this season, joining Magnolia’s Jason Webb.

Jarencio is no stranger to PBA management, having served as NorthPort’s team manager last season after several years as its head coach. He joined Terrafirma following Pureblends Corp.’s purchase of the Batang Pier franchise.

Jarencio continues to steer UST in the UAAP, where the Growling Tigers are off to a 2-0 start in Season 88 after upsetting perennial contenders La Salle and UP.

As a PBA team governor, Jarencio will represent Terrafirma in the league’s Board of Governors, which oversees policy-making, marketing, business and expansion matters. F
