ONE OF the country’s top high school prospects has decided to bring his talents to the Tigers’ lair.
Cebuano guard Henry Suico is set to join the UST Growling Tigers in UAAP Season 89 with five years of eligibility, a team insider confirmed to The Flame on Saturday, March 14.
The 18-year-old playmaker who hails from Mandaue City is set to fill the void in España’s backcourt after core guards Forthsky Padrigao and Kyle Paranada have exhausted their playing years.
Suico was a standout player for the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles, averaging 11.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.1 steals per game in the recently concluded CESAFI Season 25 tournament.
The 6-foot-1 guard came to prominence after being invited to the NBA Academy Asia Development Camp in Singapore in 2023 alongside other Filipino cagers, including Kieffer Alas, one of the newest additions to the Ateneo Blue Eagles’ roster.
Earlier this year, Suico was invited to another camp in Madrid, Spain, under the tutelage of top Spanish coaches.
Entering the post-Nic Cabañero era, the Tigers are expected to make a push for a title — a feat they have yet to accomplish since Season 69 — behind Elite Team member Collins Akowe, mainstays Gelo Crisostomo, Mark Llemit, Koji Buenaflor, as well as new additions Kris Porter, Kurt Laput and James Jumao-as.
