TAMARES AFTER CLINCHING podium finishes in last year’s Pautakan, the Faculty of Arts and Letters (AB) was five points short of a spot in the top three in this year's intercollegiate quiz contest held Monday, landing fourth place in both individual and group categories. AB garnered 70 points in the final round of the group category, trailing behind second runner-up Faculty of Pharmacy’s 75 points. The AB team was composed of legal management student Japheth Irreverre, philosophy major Kirk Matthew Sabio, economics students Sean Paul De Castro and Jaycar Espinosa, and political science majors Leif Arden Fraginal, Jose Arturo Topacio, and Lawrence Llanita, who represented AB in the individual category. TORRES DOWN FROM the championship, the Faculty of Arts and Letters (AB) finished first runner-up in the individual category of this year's Pautakan, and maintained its second runner-up spot in the group category on Monday at the Medicine Auditorium. AB’s individual category representative Augustus Botrous Guco booked his ticket to the finals round after finishing second during the eliminations with 135 points, trailing behind Faculty of Engineering’s John Matthew Caballas who finished with 205 points. AFTER a dismal run last year, the Faculty of Arts and Letters (AB) regained the top spot in this year’s Pautakan individual category and placed third in the group category. AB’s Augustus Botrous Guco emerged as the victor in the individual category after beating Joseph Mari Aranzaso from the Alfredo M. Velayo-College of Accountancy (AMV) during the finals clincher round. Earning a total of 110 points by the end of the average round, Guco was the top scorer during the first two rounds of the finals. Guco and Aranzaso tied at 190 points at the end of the difficult round, forcing a clincher round that decided AB’s win. AFTER LAST year’s bridesmaid finish in the team category of Pautakan, the Faculty of Arts and Letters (AB) failed to secure a spot in the top three of this year’s intercollegiate quiz contest. The AB team composed of the Flame Literary Editor Arvee Gomez, Imee Camille Advincula, Hannah Luise Baltazar, Augustus Bostrous Guco, Jezaree Corpuz, Marc Gjeremie Cheung, and John Robert Andres landed fourth place with 170 points — only five points away from the second runner-up Faculty of Pharmacy. Earning 240 points, the defending champion Faculty of Engineering added laurels to its collection, while the Alfredo M. Velayo – College of Accountancy settled for first runner-up with 230 points.
