THE FACULTY of Arts and Letters (AB) has promoted five academic members to associate professor, while two others were reclassified as assistant professors, according to its announcement on Monday, Aug. 10.
Under Article 42 of the UST General Statutes, instructors who are promoted to assistant professors must be Master’s degree holders or their equivalent in their field, while faculty members who are promoted to associate professors must hold a doctorate degree or its equivalent.
English Assoc. Prof. Katrina Ninfa Topacio is the assistant director of the UST Research Center for Social Sciences and Education, while Assoc. Prof Joram Kim Corcuera is the chair of the Department of English.
Another English faculty member, Assoc. Prof. Josephine Alarcon, works as a thesis and dissertation editor at the UST Graduate School and a contributor to the Asian Journal of English Language Studies.
Literature Assoc. Prof. Ma. Eloisa Perez holds a doctorate in Comparative Literature and specializes in comparative literature and literary studies.
Assoc. Prof. Milrose Llenas of the Department of Political Science is a doctoral degree holder in Political Science. She is also involved in the University’s sociology programs, particularly politics and governance.
Literature Asst. Prof. Raen Carlo Ledesma currently serves as the AB’s library coordinator. He is affiliated with the department’s research initiatives focused on postcolonialism, gender studies, queer diaspora and ecocriticism.
Asst. Prof. Gian Carlo Ledesma is the chair of the Behavioral Science department. He holds a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology and is involved in gender-related academic endeavors.
Reclassification ensures that the employee’s position matches the work they are tasked with. It coincides with the adjustment of the title, salary grade and the status that comes with new responsibilities.
The promotion also recognizes a faculty member’s qualifications and contributions in areas such as teaching, research and service to the University. F
