THE UST Growling Tigresses kicked off their UAAP Season 89 campaign with a steady start, dispatching the UE Lady Warriors, 103-58, on Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Captain Bridgette Santos led all scorers with 18 points, while Erinn McAlary chipped in 14 markers.
UST took control early, closing the first quarter with a 15-4 run to take a 33-20 lead.
Santos and McAlary then paced the España-based squad into the break as the Tigresses further widened the gap to 56-35.
UST maintained control in the second half despite a slow start, then caught fire with a 16-point barrage to end the frame, 83-49.
The Tigresses cruised into victory as they outscored the Lady Warriors 20-9 in the final frame.
CJ Maglupay recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards, while Karylle Sierba also contributed 10 markers.
Sybil Onate and Rachel Lacayanga spearheaded UE’s offense chalking 16 and 15 points, respectively.
The Growling Tigresses will look to build on their strong start against the Adamson Lady Falcons on Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Blue Eagle Gym. F
