Manila Archbishop to receive honorary Doctor of Theology degree from UST

MANILA ARCHBISHOP Cardinal Jose Advincula will be awarded an honorary Doctor of Theology degree by the University of Santo Tomas during a solemn investiture ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 15.

The conferment will take place at 9 a.m. in the Dr. Robert C. Sy Grand Ballroom of the Buenaventura Garcia Paredes, O.P. Building, according to a memorandum issued by the UST Faculty of Theology on Sept. 30.

A honorary doctorate degree in Theology is given to those with exceptional contributions in religion, pastoral leadership, scholarship and humanitarian services.

Advincula earned his bachelor’s degree in Sacred Theology from UST in 1975. He completed his initial studies at the UST Faculty of Canon Law before obtaining his licentiate at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rome in 1975.

UST later awarded Advincula the 2022 Outstanding Thomasian Alumni Award for Service to the Church.

The Thomasian cardinal pursued further studies in Guidance and Counseling at the De La Salle University and was also conferred a Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Theology as an honorary degree in 2023.

Advincula currently serves as the 33rd archbishop of the Archdiocese of Manila. F
