
THE UST Growling Tigresses prevailed over the NU Lady Bulldogs, 90-66, in the UAAP Season 89 women’s basketball tournament on Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Oma Onianwa dominated the paint with 17 points and 15 rebounds, while Karylle Sierba also poured in 17 markers to lead UST’s balanced offensive attack.
The Tigresses closed out a defensive opening frame with a 7-2 run to take a slim 21-14 lead.
UST then broke away in the second quarter, unleashing a 13-2 run behind Onianwa to stretch its advantage to 47-28 at halftime.
The Tigresses maintained their double-digit cushion in the third frame as Sierba took charge offensively, scoring 10 points in the quarter alone.
UST continued to pull away in the payoff period, extending its biggest lead to 27 points after Erinn McAlary sank a technical free throw to cap the dominant showing.
Agatha Bron added 14 points for the Tigresses, while Coi Danganan and McAlary chipped in 13 and 11 markers, respectively.
Marga Villanueva paced NU with 11 points, but the Lady Bulldogs struggled to keep up with UST’s production as the Tigresses outscored them in the perimeter, 40-17.
The Tigresses will look to extend their unbeaten run against the the FEU Lady Tamaraws on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at the same venue. F
