MEMBERS OF the AB Debate Parliament (ABDP) bagged awards in Dialectics, the annual university-wide debate competition sponsored by the Thomasians Debaters Council.
Out of the competition’s ten best speakers, five winners came from AB.
Dominating the top three spots were ABDP prime minister and Behavioral Science junior Sophia Marionne Salonga, Journalism senior Roy Narra, and Literature junior Frances Ungria as overall, second, and third best public speakers, respectively.
Political Science freshman Peter Ralla and Communication Arts (CA) sophomore Taj Mahal Pasihul joined them in the roster of best public speakers after placing fifth and ninth, respectively
CA alumna and former the Flame news writer Felice Anne Cargo emerged as the third best adjudicator.
This is ABDP’s third consecutive grand finals appearance in Dialectics.
ABDP team A, composed of sophomore Lorraine Sajorda (Asian Studies), junior Jeca Comia (CA), and freshman Mari Villaflor (Journalism), bowed down to the Faculty of Civil Law team B composed of Mark Arvill Villareal, Dyan Lucero, and Jonaline Roxas.
Lucero was hailed the best speaker of the finals.
“It’s (Dialectics experience) really a whirlwind of emotions because as prime minister, there was a great pressure on me to make sure that AB appears on finals again. Pero it was really fun because [Dialectics] in itself is a very serious competition,” Salonga said.
With few months left before the national elections, “Dialectics 2016: Speak with More Than Just Your Vote” aimed to encourage students to participate in discussions relevant to political, economic, and social climate of both national and international issues.
