AFTER A double overtime, the Faculty of Arts and Letters (AB) Men’s Basketball Team fell prey against last season’s first runner-up Institute of Physical Education and Athletics (IPEA) during the do-or-die quarterfinals of this year’s Thomasian Goodwill Games, 83-88.

With IPEA on the lead, AB’s top-scorer Janrey Garrido gave the men in blue their chance to snatch the victory after scoring a two-point shot in the last few seconds of the fourth quarter, 68-68, forcing an overtime.

Just as AB was about to cap the game with a two-point lead, IPEA, however, managed to score and tied the game again at 79-79, causing another overtime.

IPEA then remained consistent in its offense while AB struggled to keep up.

AB’s coach and former UST Growling Tigers team captain Louie Vigil said that while there are always lapses in games, AB was not really at fault for losing.

“Unfortunately, hindi kami nakapag-convert ng shots kaya down the wire, ganun ‘yung nangyari. Last one minute, they were up like four or five, so hanggang matapos na ‘yung game, hindi na kami maka-shoot and naubos na rin ‘yung technicalities, naubos na rin ‘yung timeouts, and we lost.”

Garrido and Paul Lopez led AB’s offense with 39 and 18 points, respectively. F
