THE UNIVERSITY moved the opening of classes in the college level for the second term to Jan. 26 after the Manila city government declared a weeklong health break for schools.

“Regular classes in basic education (EHS and JHS) shall resume on January 24, 2022 (Monday) while classes in the SHS and tertiary programs for the second term, AY 2021-2022 shall commence on January 26, 2022 (Wednesday),” UST Secretary General Fr. Louie Coronel, O.P. said in a memorandum issued Thursday.

This is the second time the opening of classes for the second term has been rescheduled. In a memorandum dated Jan. 8, the Office of the Secretary General (OSG) announced that the classes would be moved from Jan. 18 to Jan. 25 due to the increasing COVID-19 infections.

Classes and work in the University are also suspended until Jan. 21, the OSG stated, while enrollment will continue on Jan. 24 to 25.

“Consistent with Executive Order No. 07 series of 2022 of the Office of the Mayor of the City of Manila, declaring a weeklong health break for all students and faculty in all public and private academic institutions from January 14 to 21, 2022, the suspension of classes and work in the University is extended up to January 21, 2022,” Coronel said.

“Online assessment and payment remain open for those who were already advised. Enrollment resumes on January 24-25, 2022,” he added.

Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso on Thursday declared a city-wide health break from Jan. 14 to 21 for all students, teachers, and school personnel in both private and public schools.

“Ito po ay para mabawasan ang anxiety level nating lahat dulot ng tumataas na kaso ng COVID19 (This is to help reduce our anxiety levels brought by the rising cases of COVID-19),” Domagoso said.

The OSG also appealed to Thomasians to strictly adhere to the health protocols. F
