Artlets alumna recognized for report on heart disease

AN ALUMNA of the Faculty of Arts and Letters won best news feature for her piece on heart disease at the 2024 Philippine Heart Association (PHA) Media Awards.

Giselle Ombay, a Journalism graduate from batch 2019, was recognized for her story published at GMA News Online titled “Mending a Broken Heart in the Philippines,” which delves into the personal experiences of individuals affected by heart disease and highlights the emotional and financial challenges they face. 

Ombay serves as junior news producer at GMA Network, Inc., where she covers critical topics, including politics, health and education. She previously worked as a public relations writer for communications firm Mediasense, Inc., and online writer for ABS-CBN Corporation.

During her college years, Ombay was vice president-external at the UST Journalism Society and co-director for external affairs at the Central Student Council.

PHA is a subspecialty association of cardiologists established in 1952. F
