28 Artlets profs honored for research productivity

TWENTY-EIGHT PROFESSORS of the UST Faculty of Arts and Letters have received recognition for their research productivity in their respective fields from 2022 to 2024 in the latest Gold and Silver Awards.

A total of 16 Artlets researchers were conferred the Gold Award, while 12 were recipients of the Silver Award.

The Research Center for Culture, Arts and Humanities (RCCAH) garnered the highest number of research prizes, with 14 Gold and Silver Awards.

These honors are determined by the qualifier’s research publications, with UST listed as the address in his or her byline, ongoing research participation and tenure at the University.

The Gold awardees were RCCAH Director and Philosophy instructor Anton Heinrich Rennesland, former History department chair Assoc. Prof. Augusto De Viana, Creative Writing Assoc. Prof. Chuckberry Pascual, Philosophy Prof. Marella Ada Bolanos, Assoc. Prof. Roland Theuas delos Santos Pada and Assoc. Prof. Raniel Reyes.

Meanwhile, the Silver Award was conferred to Creative Writing department chair Assoc. Prof. Joselito Delos Reyes, Philosophy Asst. Prof. Gian Carla Agbisit and Prof. Ian Raymond Pacquing, Literature Prof. Rhochie Avelino Matienzo, Prof. Lawdenmarc Decamora, Creative Writing Asst. Prof. Paul Castillo, and Asst. Prof. Benedict Parfan.

Under the Research Center for Social Sciences and Education, which earned a total of 11 accolades, the Gold distinction was given to its director and Journalism Assoc. Prof. Jeremaiah Opiniano, former Artlets dean Prof. Marilu Madrunio, English Asst. Prof. Pia Patricia Tenedero, Prof. Alejandro Bernardo, Prof. Veronico Tarrayo and Prof. Arlen Ancheta.

RCSSED Assistant Director Asst. Prof. Katrina Ninfa Topacio, Sociology chair Prof. Clarence Batan, English chair Prof. Rachelle Lintao, Sociology Asst. Prof. Froilan Alipa and Philosophy Asst. Prof. Frederick Rey received the Silver honors.

Three Gold awardees were from the Center for Theology, Religious Studies, and Ethics, namely Philosophy Prof. Jove Jim Aguas, Prof. Jovito Carino and Communication Prof. Joyce Arriola.

Qualifications

The Gold Series is divided into two categories: research and creative works. Under the research category, the recipient must be a tenured full-time faculty member with a doctorate or master’s degree and teaching exclusively in UST except for Graduate School affiliates. 

The Gold awardee must have also written at least five research papers published in refereed journals or scholarly books in the last five years (with at least two of these published, one of which is an international publication), or has one patent or utility model granted within the period covered by the award, or authored at least two scholarly books in the last five years (with one of these published within the same required period).

The recipient must also have an ongoing study under his or her research unit at the University and with at least one research disciple (graduate students, junior professors, medical interns and medical residents).

Qualifications for the creative works category are the following: a tenured full-time faculty member with a doctorate degree and is teaching exclusively in UST except for Graduate School affiliates, authored at least three creative or critical works in the last five years (with at least one of these published within the required period) and has ongoing creative works under the UST research unit he or she is affiliated with.

The Silver Series also constitutes the same two categories. Awardees for the research category must be a tenured full-time faculty member with a master’s degree in science or art, teaching exclusively in UST except for Graduate School affiliates, have written at least three research works published in refereed journals or scholarly books in the last five years (with at least one of these published or has one patent or utility model granted within the required period) or authored at least one scholarly book in the last five years published within the same period and is conducting a study under his or her affiliated research unit in UST.

Those who were recognized under the creative works category are tenured full-time faculty members with a master’s degree in science or art, teaching exclusively in UST except for Graduate School affiliates, have authored at least two creative or critical works in the last five years (with at least one of these was published within the required period) and has a creative project in progress for his or her research affiliation at the University.

The awarding ceremony will take place on Feb. 27, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the grand ballroom of the Buenaventura Garcia Paredes, O.P. building. It will be led by the Office of the Vice Rector for Research and Innovation. F
