
FORMER UST Department of Modern Languages instructor Dennis Raymond Maturan, who handled Spanish courses at the University for 10 years, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, his sister Marjorie Maturan announced.
He was 59.
“We are deeply grateful to all who have been part of his wonderful life. During this time of loss, our family deeply appreciates the support, prayers, sympathy, and all the kind messages and heartfelt condolences we’ve received. He will be greatly missed,” Marjorie said in a Facebook post.
The UST Faculty of Arts and Letters also expressed its condolences to Maturan’s family.
“May the bereaved family find comfort and strength, and let us offer our prayers for the eternal repose of his soul,” it said in a Facebook post.
During his time at the University, Maturan taught the Spanish language and the historical and cultural context of Catholicism in Spain. He was also a faculty member of De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde and San Sebastian College.
The late instructor was known as the main promoter of the Old Rite, a traditional Roman missal compiled by Pope John XXIII that used Latin as the liturgical language.
Since 1999, Maturan had been a member of the Congregacion del Santisimo Nombre del Niño Jesus, a religious organization that celebrates the feast of Sto. Niño.
Maturan was the son of the late actor and singer Diomedes Maturan, who starred in “Botika sa Baryo” in 1960 and was the grand champion in Tawag ng Tanghalan for his song “Rose Tattoo” in 1955.
Maturan’s wake will be held at the Cosmopolitan Memorial Chapels in Araneta Avenue, Quezon City, on May 8, 5 p.m. F
