Four AB faculty members promoted to assistant professor

THE FACULTY of Arts and Letters (AB) has promoted four academic staff members from instructor to assistant professor in line with the University’s policies on promotion and reclassification.

The AB announced the promotion of the faculty members on Monday, April 13.

Four faculty members from the Asian Studies, Behavioral Science, Literature and Philosophy departments qualified for the rank upgrade.

Asst. Prof. Jonathan Eli Libut of the Asian Studies department has been serving the University since 2012 and currently heads the program.

Libut previously served as program coordinator and quality management representative. He has also been involved in academic and policy research, including engagements with the Université catholique de Louvain in Belgium, the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research in Switzerland and the Pacific Forum in the United States.

Asst. Prof. Gian Carlo Ledesma, chair of the Behavioral Science department, has been a faculty member since 2012 and also teaches in the UST Graduate School psychology program. Ledesma is also affiliated with the UST Research Center for the Social Sciences and Education and has experience in clinical psychology and human resource practice. He used to teach at the Far Eastern University and Lyceum of the Philippines University.

Asst. Prof. Jan Raen Carlo Ledesma of the Literature department teaches courses in literary studies, including literary theory and criticism. He is also a research fellow at the UST Research Center for Culture, Arts and Humanities (RCCAH) and serves as the AB’s library coordinator.

Asst. Prof. Anton Heinrich Rennesland, a faculty member of the Department of Philosophy, currently serves as director of the UST RCCAH. Rennesland also serves as an editor for academic journals, including Kritike and UNITAS. He previously taught at World Citi Colleges.

Under Article 42 of the UST General Statutes, instructors must hold at least a master’s degree or its equivalent in their field of specialization to qualify for promotion to assistant professor.

Faculty promotions also require the concurrence of the Academic Senate, which has the authority to approve such advancements. F
