THE FACULTY of Arts and Letters (AB) Women’s Volleyball Team exited early in the Thomasian Goodwill Games after bowing to the College of Architecture in a three set-thriller, 19-25, 25-16, and 16-25, at the P. Noval Court Tuesday.
Both squads fought neck-and-neck at the beginning of the second frame but a forceful hit by AB team captain Elyanna Dayanghirang broke the tie, 10-9.
The Dapitan-based squad maintained its momentum with good reception, and converted points from the service line, 22-12.
Architecture dominated the decisive set with sturdy defense and consecutive service aces from Patricia Tingjuy and Carina Dacanay, denying AB a quarterfinals spot in the tourney.
“‘Yung sinabi ko talaga sa kanila as the captain: it’s now or never. Mag-thank you tayo kay Lord kasi binigay sa’tin ‘yung second set, kumbaga parang binigyan tayo ng second chance para bumawi. Napangunahan lang ng kaba since bago nga ‘yung team namin,” Dayanghirang said.
AB also lost in its previous game against defending champion College of Rehabilitation Sciences, 16-25 and 17-25, held Nov. 11. F ANGELIQUE ANNE F. TORRES
