A FORMER dean of the Faculty of Arts and Letters was among the delegates to the US Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), a premier initiative to strengthen international networks and explore policy goals.

Lawyer Jacqueline Lopez-Kaw, currently the dean of the Graduate School of Law, was the country’s representative for the three-week US exchange program that ran from June 10 to July 11, according to the UST website.

IVLP is an invitation-only program in which 22 legal professionals and public servants were nominated by their respective US embassies for their leadership potential and community impact. The fellows visited several US government institutions, including the Library of Congress, the National Archives and Records Administration and the Supreme Court.

The former AB dean earned her bachelor’s degree in Legal Management in 2002, obtained her Master’s degree in law in 2016 and finished her doctorate studies in Civil Law in 2019 at UST.

Kaw previously served as the director of the University’s Human Resource Department from 2010 to 2022 and as the faculty secretary of the UST Faculty of Civil Law from 2008 to 2010. She later worked as the AB dean from January to December 2023.

Kaw also played a key role in the University’s collective bargaining agreement (CBS), a negotiated contract between the UST Faculty Union and the administration involving wages, hours of work and other provisions. She served as the chair of the management panel for the 2011-2016 and 2016-2021 CBAs and as the vice chair for the 2021-2026 CBA for the support staff.

Before her stint as UST educator and administrator, Kaw worked as a court lawyer in the Supreme Court of the Philippines under Associate Justice Alicia Austria-Martinez and as an associate at Divina and Uy Law Office.

Kaw has been recognized as a human resource professional by the International Federation of Professional Managers since 2019. F–Betchemar Gonzales
