THE UST Journalism department has hired a researcher from a global human rights watchdog and a production company consultant as part of its efforts to further boost its faculty line-up.
Human Rights Watch researcher Lian Buan and former TV reporter Carolyn Bonquin attended their first department-level meeting on Monday, Aug. 10, social media posts by Journalism faculty members showed.
Buan, a UST Journalism graduate, is a former senior investigative journalist at Rappler who covered human rights and anti-corruption issues. She also worked as an associate producer at GMA Network from 2010 to 2016.
Before her appointment as a researcher at international watchdog Human Rights Watch, Buan completed her Master of Laws in Human Rights in 2023 at Birkbeck, University of London.
Bonquin worked as a TV reporter, segment producer and writer at ABS-CBN Corp. from 2010 to 2017.
She also served as a correspondent for the defunct CNN Philippines, where she covered health, environment and agriculture beats. She currently works as a consultant at Amber Studios Manila, a Filipino-run production company.
In 2010, Bonquin graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Communications from the University of the Philippines Diliman. She finished her Master’s degree in Investigative Reporting, Media and Arts at Birkbeck, University of London. F
