FIVE OF the six programs from the Faculty of Arts and Letters (AB) that vied for the Level IV accreditation of the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA) were granted the distinction on Thursday, Sept. 24.
The five newly accredited Level IV status programs were Asian Studies, Behavioral Sciences, Communication, Journalism and Political Science, according to AB dean Prof. Melanie Turingan-Marcos.
The Sociology department, one of the six programs that applied for Level IV status in the previous academic term, is scheduled to be evaluated on Nov. 19 and 20.
“So all in all, results for the 11 out of 13 [AB programs] were released,” Marcos told The Flame.
Earlier this year, the following four departments reached Level IV reaccreditation: Legal Management, Economics, Philosophy and Literature. The remaining two programs, English Language Studies and History, were granted Level II reaccreditation.

The Department of Creative Writing has submitted the necessary documents to apply for Candidate Status.
Marcos said that a department must have a cohort of graduates to be eligible for an accreditation status. The recent qualification of the five newly-accredited programs will last until July 2031.
“We were granted a five-year term, so it remains effective until 2031,” Marcos said.
PACUCOA is a private non-profit organization that recognizes academic programs at educational institutions that maintain high standards of teaching and learning. F
