THE FACULTY of Arts and Letters (AB) Women’s Basketball Team is recovering the lethal form that carried it to the Thomasian Goodwill Games Finals last year through a methodical handling of the College of Nursing (Nursing) Women’s Basketball Team, 56-23, in their elimination round duel held March 7 at the P. Noval Court.

AB’s Alaina Dimdam equalled the output of the whole Nursing squad with 23 points, while her backcourt tandem, Jonne Senga, tallied 12 points.

Nursing only scored a single point in the first quarter, while allowing AB to easily penetrate its defense and mount an early 16-point advantage, 17-1.

AB kept its pace in the second period and knocked down its jump shots and layups, ushering the score to 27-7 before halftime.

Yen Durano and Micah Atienza of AB grabbed offensive rebounds in the third quarter, resulting to even more open layups for Senga and free throws for Dimdam.

Nursing only had 18 points going into the final period, while AB scored 41 points.

Kathleen Guda of Nursing tried to rally her team back into striking distance with three pointers but it was not enough since AB had already mounted its biggest lead at 33 points.

For Senga, AB’s victory was the fruit of incorporating the system that their coach had taught them for years.

“‘Yun lang, mindset lang talaga at saka stick sa kung anong tinuturo ng coach namin every training,” the team captain of AB told the Flame.

They will face the College of Tourism and Hospitality Management on April 4 at the P. Noval Court after the break in the schedule to give way for the preliminary exams.MARIA EDEN T. DINO
