THE UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas (UST) remained as the Philippine employers’ fourth leading school for new hires, a recent survey by an online job portal showed.
UST received a 5.28% rating in a Jobstreet by SEEK poll on employers’ preferred source of candidates conducted last May. It was behind the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), the most preferred source of new hires (23.39%); University of the Philippines or UP (9.17%); and De La Salle University (6.88%).
According to a Facebook post by Jobstreet Philippines, UST was the third most preferred source of employees by firms that belong to the call center or business process outsourcing. PUP topped the list, followed by UP.
Jobstreet also enumerated the top picks of employers from the information technology, human resource management, manufacturing, construction and wholesale trading industries. However, UST was not among them.
UST ranked second in a similar poll conducted in 2016. It became the employers’ fourth choice for recruiting applicants in Jobstreet’s 2018 Fresh Graduates Report.
Over 700 companies across 42 industries were surveyed this year.
Behind UST were Mapúa University (3.44%), Batangas State University (3.21%) and the University of Mindanao (2.29%). The University of Cebu, Technological Institute of the Philippines and STI College each received a rating of 2.06%. F – Shayne Lee Macaraeg and Aljon Danniell Eguia
