The new administration of the Faculty of Arts and Letters (AB) led by Acting Dean Prof. Melanie Turingan will conduct room-to-room visits to respond to the needs of the Artlets.
Turingan said the visits to all AB sections would be conducted after she assumes the highest post in the faculty in January.
“[This is] so they will be able to know the assistance the administration is very willing to offer to them,” Turingan told The Flame in an interview last Wednesday, Dec. 20.
Turingan, who served as assistant dean of AB for a year, vowed to sustain the accomplishments of her predecessor, outgoing Acting Dean Jacqueline Lopez-Kaw.
Kaw, who was appointed acting AB dean in 2022, has been named acting dean of the UST Graduate School of Law, succeeding Assoc. Prof. Maria Liza Lopez-Rosario. The new assistant dean of AB has yet to be named.
The deanship turnover ceremony was held last Wednesday, Dec. 20, but Kaw will serve as acting AB Dean until Dec. 31.
“Since I am part of the previous administration…I will definitely plan to execute all the things that will be left by dean Kaw,”Turingan said.
Turingan was UST assistant registrar from 2018 to 2022 before her appointment as AB assistant dean in December last year.
A history professor, Turingan completed her bachelor’s degree in Asian studies at UST in 2002. She finished her master’s degree in history also from the University in 2004 and earned her doctorate in Philippine studies at De La Salle University in 2016.
Turingan teaches the Life and Works of Rizal, Philippine Cultural History and Readings in Philippine History.
In 2018, she became a finalist of the Gawad Santo Tomas in the Assistant Professor category for her excellence in her field. She was recognized as the best teacher in basic sciences at the College of Rehabilitation and Sciences from 2017 to 2019.
