THE UST Teletigers Esports Club finished with silver as they tumbled to the defending champions Ateneo Blue Eagles, 2-0, in the UAAP Season 87 esports NBA2K finals on Friday, May 16, at the Gateway 2 Quantum Skyview.
Despite the defeat, the Teletigers improved from bronze to silver this season.
“No matter what happens, we still got the silver medal… we made it past the semifinals last year,” UST head tactician Augusto de Jesus III told The Flame.
It was a shame that game one was just one last shot, so our game plan really changed. But my players their all, it was just short,” he added
In the first match, Teletiger Daemiel Argame’ Miami Heat crumbled in overtime against Luis Jovellanos’ Washington Wizards, 77-71.
Tied at 64-all, Argame had a chance to win the game, but missed the potential game-winner during the dying seconds of regulation.
Meanwhile, Blue Eagle Paul Medina controlled the San Antonio Spurs to outplay UST captain Erxy Delos Reyes’ Dallas Mavericks in the second game, 69-59.
Delos Reyes tried to get his feet back in the second half until Medina’s adjustments managed to build a double-digit cushion in the fourth frame.
“We’ll come back next year, hopefully for gold. We just have to practice, we’re only losing because of errors, you’re really not allowed to make mistakes,” De Jesus said. F
