AFTER THREE seasons in the UAAP, former UST Golden Spiker Popoy Colinares is set to bring his defensive prowess to the Criss Cross King Crunchers in the Spikers’ Turf, the team announced in a social media post on Saturday, June 21.
The 6-foot-2 middle blocker will bolster the lineup of the league’s back-to-back silver medalists and will guard the frontline alongside reigning 2nd Best Middle Blocker Gian Glorioso and ALAS Pilipinas member Kim Malabunga.
“Popoy Colinares is bringing height, hustle, and heart to the net. Get ready for a new force in the middle!,” Criss Cross said in the post.
Colinares will also join former rivals and DLSU Green Spikers Noel Kampton and Menard Guerrero as rookies of the team.
Weeks after the Golden Spikers bowed out of the Season 87 finals contention in their semis loss to the five-peat-seeking NU Bulldogs, Colinares expressed his gratitude for UST.
“Grateful for every moment of my last ride. Thank you, UST,” he said in a social media post on May 21.
Colinares wrapped up his UAAP career by helping UST secure a bronze medal finish in Season 87.
In his final year, he bagged the Best Middle Blocker plum after finishing the elimination round with 33 kill blocks and 146 points. F
