FRESH OFF a 5×5 title, the UST Growling Tigresses dominated both of their opening games in the UAAP Season 88 women’s 3×3 basketball campaign on Monday, April 27, at Ayala Malls Manila Bay.
Behind graduating star Kent Pastrana, the Tigresses first made quick work of defending champions Ateneo Blue Eagles, 21-9, before steamrolling past the Adamson Lady Falcons, 21-10, to end the day with a 2-0 record.
Pastrana led the charge in both games, dropping 11 points against Ateneo and contributing eight markers and 13 rebounds against Adamson. Meanwhile, rookie Erinn Mcalary chipped in 11 points across two matches.
On the men’s side, the Growling Tigers dropped both games, falling to the NU Bulldogs, 16-9, and the FEU Tamaraws, 22-15.
The quest to redeem their silver finish from Season 87 was hampered by the absence of forward Gelo Crisostomo, who is currently with the Gilas Pilipinas 3×3 team in the 2026 Asian Beach Games in China, alongside former Tiger King Nic Cabañero.
The Tigresses look to continue their hot start versus the FEU Lady Tamaraws, while the Tigers aim to regroup against the Adamson Soaring Falcons, on Tuesday, April 28, at the same venue. F
