7 Artlets profs among Thomasian profs appointed to CHEd technical committees, panels

SEVEN PROFESSORS from the Faculty of Arts and Letters (AB) were among the 35 Thomasian educators who were appointed heads and members of the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) technical committees and technical panels last Jan. 20.

Department of Philosophy founding chair Prof. Alfredo Co will lead the technical committee for Philosophy as chairperson. He will also serve as co-chairperson of the technical panel for Humanities Education.

Former dean Prof. Belen Tangco, meanwhile, was appointed member of the technical panel for Transnational and Distance Education.

Department of History Chairperson Assoc. Prof. Augusto De Viana, Department of Literature Chairperson Prof. Joyce Arriola, and Journalism coordinator Asst. Prof. Jeremaiah Opiniano were assigned members of the technical committees for History, Literature, and Journalism, respectively.

Completing the list of CHEd appointees in the Faculty were UST Graduate School dean and former chair of the Department of English Prof. Marilu Madrunio (technical committee for English Language) and UST Research Center on Culture, Education, and Social Issues Assoc. Prof. Clarence Batan (technical committee for Sociology).

Technical committee heads and members will serve in working committees and assist the panels in their activities.

Technical panel heads and members are tasked to conceptualize and create plans, policies, and standards on the operation of higher education programs, according to CHEd Special Order No. 08 issued last Jan. 20.

Panel heads and members will also develop guidelines and criteria in determining the Centers of Development and Centers of Excellence in higher educational institutions.
