16 Artlets profs honored in Dangal ng UST Awards

SIXTEEN PROFESSORS from the Faculty of Arts and Letters were recognized for their loyalty and contributions to the University in the 18th Dangal ng UST Awards held May 11.

Department of Philosophy founding chair Alfredo Co received the Gawad San Alberto Magno award for the category Natatanging Aklat, while UST Center for Creative Writing and Literary Studies resident fellows Chuckberry Pascual and Joselito de los Reyes were recognized for Natatanging Malikhaing Akda and Natatanging Alagad ng Sining, respectively.

De los Reyes also received the Gawad San Lorenzo Ruiz award.

Gawad San Alberto Magno is given to Thomasian professors who excel in the field of research and innovation, while Gawad San Lorenzo Ruiz is given to educators who have acquired national and international recognition.

Co and Arlene Ancheta from the Department of Sociology were given the Gawad Benavides award for their 40 and 35 years of service in the University, accordingly.

Also among the Gawad Benavides awardees were Department of Economics chair Emmanuel Lopez, Department of Philosophy’s Robert Montana, Emmanuel Batoon and Emerito Gonzales, and Department of Interdisciplinary Studies’ Antonio Chua, who all have served the Thomasian community for 25 years.

Gawad Benavides is given to professors who have served the Thomasian community for 20 to 50 years.

UST Research Center on Culture, Education, and Social Issues director Clarence Batan and Rhodoralynn Lintag from the Department of Sociology, Aurora Cristina Bermudez from the Department of Economics, Maximo Sauz Jr. from the Department of Literature, and Jocelyn Amongo, Andres Julio Santiago Jr., and Mildred Antonio from the Department of English also received the Gawad Benavides Award for their 20 years of service in the University.

Rector Fr. Herminio Dagohoy O.P. noted that a teacher’s dignity comes with the capability to comply with responsibilities.

Kung tutuusin, ang dignidad ng isang guro ay nakabase sa kanyang atas, […] ang paghubog sa kamalayan upang masusing timbangin ang katuwiran laban sa kamalian, ang turuan ang mga mag-aaral kung paano umiwas sa mga panlilinlang, maninindigan sa katotohanan at ipaglaban ang katarungan,” Dagohoy said.

The 18th Dangal ng UST Awards was held at the Medicine Auditorium and was organized by the University, in collaboration with the UST Faculty Union. F – MARIA EDEN T. DINO
