AB settles for podium finish in Pautakan

DOWN FROM the championship, the Faculty of Arts and Letters (AB) finished first runner-up in the individual category of this year’s Pautakan, and maintained its second runner-up spot in the group category on Monday at the Medicine Auditorium.

AB’s individual category representative Augustus Botrous Guco booked his ticket to the finals round after finishing second during the eliminations with 135 points, trailing behind Faculty of Engineering’s John Matthew Caballas who finished with 205 points.

Tallying a total of 195 points in the finals difficult round, Guco surrendered his title to Caballas who finished with 270 points. Danvhar Nojara from the UST-Alfredo M. Velayo College of Accountancy (AMV) placed third with 190 points.

AB retained its place for the group category of the competition and finished second runner-up with 175 points.

The AB team composed of team captain Jezaree Corpuz, Guco, Rozell Joshua Ines, Leif Arden Fraginal, Ella Edralin, and Danielle Arlegono secured a spot in the top five of the eliminations and advanced to the finals round after it scored 145 points, only 10 points away from top scorer AMV with 155 points.

AB went home third and left the floor to reigning title holder AMV and Engineering who deadlocked at 275 points at the end of the finals difficult round, forcing a clincher frame that secured AMV’s win for the second straight year.

AB’s last triumph was recorded in 2009.

This year marks the Varsitarian’s 41st Pautakan, the longest-running intercollegiate quiz contest in the country. F
