AB Women’s crushes Nursing in 101-24 blowout

THE FACULTY of Arts and Letters Women’s Basketball Team (AB) scored another lopsided victory in the Thomasian Goodwill Games after overwhelming the College of Nursing with a 77-point lead victory.

AB’s Alaina Dimdam finished with game-high 32 points before sitting out the majority of the fourth quarter and Koleen Salita stuffed the statistics sheet with 20 points. The whole squad gobbled rebounds and dished out assists as they outclassed Nursing, 101-24.

AB immediately set the pace in the first quarter as Dimdam buried a three-point shot and knocked down a jumper – all in the first three possessions of the match-up.

Nursing, given the chance to score in the first quarter, missed two attempts from the charity stripe and all of its field goals.

Jonne Senga and Salita teamed up to overpower the offenses of Nursing as they scored two field goals each. AB pushed the lead further with a bucket from Nikki Lehnert which gave AB a 22-to-0 advantage in the first quarter.

The second quarter became Nursing’s most productive quarter after finally sinking its first basket and scoring 11 points.

Salita’s hands were on fire in the second quarter as she scored three consecutive baskets, further widening the gap before going into halftime, 44-11.

AB clicked on all cylinders in the third quarter as they forced Nursing to commit consecutive turnovers, which were translated into fastbreak points.

Leading at 70-18 midway in the third quarter, AB still kept the pressure on the backcourt preventing Nursing’s offense to settle in.

As the turnovers piled up for Nursing, it was Dimdam who put salt on their wounds after nailing back-to-back treys to extend AB’s lead, 76-18.

AB found another scoring firepower from Lara Quicho who scored nine of her 11 points as the last ten minutes of the match-up went down.

After scoring a lay-up from Lehnert’s assist, Quicho snatched the ball from Nursing and secured a three-point basket. Quicho kept the scoring pace as she converted three-point shots, pushing AB to a 95-18 lead.

AB cruised in the final quarter with their offensive plays, while allowing Nursing to only score six points, 101-24.

AB will try shoot for its third victory as they battle against the College of Rehabilitation Sciences on March 4 which will be held at the P. Noval Court. F DONN CLARENZE D. GONZALES
